Westhaven Your Home Away from Home

Our Lodge is a labour of love and we’d like to share it with you. It was built over a period of ten years by our three generation family who dreamed of an extraordinary lodge built in an extraordinary part of New Zealand.

Westhaven Lodge guests really do enjoy our luxury accommodation together with all the comforts of home, somewhere to relish beautiful New Zealand coastlines and delightful cuisine. Here they can relax and be fully catered for from morning to night.

And that’s Westhaven Retreat Lodge today.

Construction of Westhaven Retreat

Our dream began with the start of construction in March 2003. Everything, from the schist stone to the timber coffee tables, has been constructed in New Zealand’s traditional colonial style by our family. It is the love of every detail and the challenge of a building that matches our surroundings, that kept us going for ten years. Finally we are sharing our beautiful Lodge and peninsula with our guests.

Basically the Lodge is three big octagonal structures incorporated together. It features solid timber floors of teak and Tasmanian oak, plus 100 tonnes of hand-split Otago schist covering foyers, patios and entrance ways. All ceilings and interior joinery are made from recycled rimu and teak.

Our driving force behind this accomplishment is Bruno, ably assisted by us, his wife Monika and his daughter and son-in-law, Monika and Tomas. Our endeavours providing a perfect fusion of European precision engineering and the Asian philosophy of feng shui.

South Head, The Pastoral Side of Westhaven

The tradition of pastoral farming at the South Head farm has existed there for almost a century. Monika and Tomas manage the pastoraal side of Westhaven Farm. Our 1000 acre peninsula currently grazes sheep, cattle, llamas and goats.
